Bargains on the Broadkill, Sun Festival, Paddlefest and Much More on Tap This Weekend Before Labor Day
As we near the end of the traditional summer season for yet another year, the area is about to transition into the busiest period on the calendar in terms of local events and festivals.
But while we're still a week away from this year's Jazz Funeral and the following week's kickoff of Fall Festival Season, there are already plenty of festivals and gatherings popping up on the calendar.
This final weekend of August is filled with a wide range of fun events for the whole family. So we're not going to waste any time and instead jump right into the good stuff.
We begin our look at this weekend's events calendar by taking a trip to the shores of the Broadkill River and one of Milton's largest annual festivals.
Bargains on the Broadkill (August 28)
Milton is the place to be this Saturday, August 28, for one of the most popular events of the summer.
The signature event of the Bargains on the Broadkill is the wildly popular Great Duck Race, which fills the river with rubber duckies racing downstream. The owner of the first duck to cross the finish line receives $500 in cash from the Milton Chamber of Commerce.
Other prizes are also given out for ducks that perform well in the crisp waters of the Broadkill River.
Scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Milton Memorial Park, Bargains on the Broadkill also features live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, plenty of food and refreshment options and a canoe and kayak race organized by Irish Eyes.

This is the fifth year for the event, which was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the park but has continued in subsequent years due to high demand and popularity.
The highlight of the event is still the four-mile kayaking excursion, filled with many sights and members of the park staff along the way to help out. Participants launch from Savages Ditch and finish at Tower Road bayside.
Food trucks will be available at the finish line, as well as a shuttle to take paddlers back to their vehicles.
